The wife of a convicted drunk driver, as well as the drunk driver, are hit with a $25 Million judgment. In 2011, Richard Casas was killed when he was broadsided by Arturo Noriega. Noriega was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter and subsequently given a life sentence. Noriega had three convictions following drunk driver related arrests prior to this 2011 deadly collision. Florence Cases, Mr. Casas' widow, who was represented by the Law Offices of Fidel Rodriguez, Jr., brought a lawsuit directly against the drunk driver and based on "negligent entrustment" against his wife. Based on this, the wife, Pearl Noriega, was found responsible for her husband's actions because she knew of her husband's record and nevertheless purchased the vehicle for her husband and allowed him to drive without insurance. Although the family will likely never collect the judgment, they hope this $25 Million judgment raises awareness to others about the dangers of drunk driving.
